Radiation Oncology

Radiation therapy is often used alone or may be given in combination with other treatment modalities. Under the direction of a radiation oncologist, a physicist and dosimetrist use sophisticated treatment planning computers to precisely locate the cancer and meticulously compute a safe, optimal treatment dose. This state-of-the-art technology, administered by radiation therapists, consistently delivers radiation treatments enabling maximum response with minimal side effects.

The use of a High Dose Rate Remote Afterloader enables patients to receive a safe, yet aggressive therapy usually available only at university-affiliated treatment centers. The High Dose Rate Remote Afterloader provides the most direct form of radiation therapy available to patients with certain esophageal, prostate, gynecologic, skin, lung and brain cancers.
