Harris Named Director of MCH Rehab

Friday, November 11, 2011

Mitchell County Hospital recently announced the appointment of Penny L. Harris, M.Ed., CCC-SLP, to director of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation.

Harris received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Special Education and a Masters of Education Degree in Communication Disorders, both from Valdosta State University. She has 17 years experience working as a speech language pathologist in a clinical setting.

Harris has worked with the Archbold system since 2007, when she began working at Mitchell County Hospital in the rehab department.

“I am honored to be named the director of rehab at Mitchell County Hospital,” said Harris. “I grew up in Pelham and I still live in Mitchell County. I appreciate the opportunity to serve the residents of my hometown.”

In her new role, Harris will be responsible for the performance of the therapy staff at Mitchell County Hospital and will provide clinical and administrative oversight to the Rehab Department.

“Whether a patient is recovering from a traumatic accident, sports injury, or suffering from persistent body aches and pains, MCH Rehab offers inpatient and outpatient programs designed by highly credentialed therapists with extensive experience in providing the best therapy options available,” said Harris. “We are the only outpatient facility in Camilla to offer physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and wound care in one location.”

According to Harris, the rehab team at MCH provides a continuum of care unlike any other facility in Camilla. “MCH Rehab treats patients of all ages—pediatrics, adults and geriatric patients. Patients in need of intensive, inpatient rehab can receive it at Mitchell County Hospital.”

“We strive to make the transition from inpatient rehab (rehabilitation while in the hospital) to outpatient rehab easier for the patient,” said Harris. “Patients find comfort in knowing that the staff members who begin working with them at time of admission can continue their care once positive progress allows them to return on an outpatient setting.”

“Harris is a great asset to Mitchell County Hospital and to our community,” said Mark Kimball, Mitchell County Hospital administrator. “She is a respected leader in our organization and community. We are glad to have her in this role.”

Patients are accepted in rehabilitation programs upon referral of a medical doctor. For more information on available services or to obtain an appointment, contact the Outpatient Rehabilitation Center at (229) 336-8255.
