BCH Recognized for Raising Most in County for Cancer Research

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Brooks County Hospital employees teamed up for another year of raising money for the fight against cancer.

The Brooks County Hospital Relay for Life team was recognized for raising $8,753.94—the largest amount raised by a Brooks County team in 2012, marking the second consecutive year the BCH team has earned this recognition.

“We held numerous fundraisers year-round,” said Brooks County Hospital team captain Dana Wheeler, respiratory care and performance improvement coordinator at Brooks County Hospital. “We held fundraisers for the Camellia Pageant, had a uniform sale, a dinner sale and jewelry sale and several silent auctions, just to name a few.”

“As  with most medical professions, our employees often care for cancer patients, and many have also experienced the affects of having an ill cancer patient in their family, or dealing with the loss of one, or in some cases experiencing the joy of combating the dreaded disease first hand,” said Ken Rhudy, BCH administrator.

The hospital also earned the award for best decorated camp site at the community event held on May 4.

“Our team’s effort to give back for a cause that affects so many lives in our community illustrates the commitment that the BCH staff has for Brooks County,” said Rhudy. It’s a commitment that doesn’t stop when their routine shift at the hospital is over.”
