Archbold Hosts Health Talk on Non-Surgical Treatment for Back Pain

Thursday, February 14, 2013

Back pain is a very common medical problem. In fact, experts say it affects about 80-to-90 percent of Americans at some point in their lifetime.

Even though back pain can affect people at any age, it is significantly more common among adults ages 35 to 55.

Back pain can be triggered by multiple factors including poor posture, repetitive motion or chronic inflammation. And in many cases, symptoms may subside with rest and short-term use of over-the-counter medications.

But, if you suspect injury has occurred, or in cases where home treatments don’t offer relief, doctors say it’s important to seek medical attention.

“It’s important for people to understand there is treatment for back pain other than surgery,” said pain management physician Gilbert Chandler, MD. “Although surgery may be the best option for some people, others can benefit from our minimally invasive approaches that have proven successful in offering relief from pain, and allow them to return to their daily activities quickly.”

As part of Archbold Memorial Hospital’s continuing Health Talk free community lecture series, Dr. Chandler will present, “Minimally Invasive Treatments for Back Pain: Non-surgical Approaches” on Tuesday, February 19, 2013.

Dr. Chandler will discuss the causes and different types of back pain, as well as the minimally invasive treatments options available.

Dr. Chandler is board certified in anesthesiology and pain management, and his work with minimally invasive techniques for back pain has been published in nationally renowned journals. Dr. Chandler practices pain management medicine at the Thomasville Pain Center. To learn more about minimally invasive, non-surgical approaches for back pain, please attend this Health Talk. The lecture will begin at 6 p.m. and be held in the East Tower classrooms at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Dinner will be served. Pre-registration is requested; call 229-227-5140 or click here.
