Archbold Awarded VHA Quality Award

Tuesday, November 19, 2013

Archbold Memorial Hospital was recently awarded a Leadership Award by VHA, a membership alliance of not-for-profit health care providers, at the 2013 Georgia VHA Leadership Expo in Atlanta. The hospital was recognized for their successful implementation of Lean, an organization-wide initiative focused on driving out waste and improving operational processes within the organization.

After an extensive peer review process, winners were selected based on documentation of their performance and evidence that implementation of the projects produced successful outcomes for patients.

Archbold placed third in the category for hospitals with 150-349 beds with the submission “Lean Implementation: Grassroots Initiative Driving Results.”

Archbold’s journey to implementing Lean began in 2011, and over the last three years, the organization has implemented over 100 process improvements through Lean that have helped staff learn new ways to be more efficient.

“Lean at Archbold is about a culture that continuously looks at new ways to improve the process of care for our patients,” said Josh Moore, Archbold’s vice president of operational improvement. “The success of our program is primarily due to our model of empowering front line staff to make improvements. We also implemented an internal training program that helps our staff continue to build upon success stories, which is very helpful as we move forward in this challenging and changing healthcare environment.”

Archbold’s Brooks County Hospital and Mitchell County Hospital also received awards based on their outstanding efforts and achievement of quality improvement objectives within their respective facilities. Brooks County Hospital placed second in category for hospital with less 49-beds for their initiative to decrease catheter-associated urinary tract infections. Mitchell County Hospital placed third among hospitals under 49-beds for their hospital-wide initiative to identify hurdles impeding the hospital’s Core Measure success and their successful journey to achieve a goal of ninety percent compliance for all Core Measure standards.

“It’s very rewarding for our staff to be recognized for their efforts to improve the quality of care that our patients receive,” said Moore. “And it’s especially rewarding for Archbold hospitals to be recognized among the best hospitals in the state for the quality care that we provide.”
