Archbold Classic Raises Money for Scholarship Program
Wednesday, December 4, 2013
The 19th annual Archbold Classic Pro-Am Tournament was held in November at the Glen Arven Country Club in Thomasville. Over 30 teams participated in the annual event that raises funds for the Archbold Scholarship Program, a program through the Archbold Foundation that awards scholarships to eligible students in the region pursuing a degree in healthcare.
“The commitment to helping the next generation of medical professionals is part of Archbold’s history,” said Vann Middleton, Archbold Foundation president. “The first Archbold scholarships were distributed in 1956 by Mr. and Mrs. John Whitney as the Major Louie A. Beard Memorial Scholarships. And in 1994, Archbold supporters Cliff Campbell and Pat Fenlon orchestrated the first Archbold Classic, specifically with the purpose to help fund the Archbold Scholarship Program.”
Instrumental to the success of the 2013 Archbold Classic was the support and donations from local and regional businesses. The Major Sponsors for the 2013 Archbold Classic were BB&T, Commercial Bank, Hirtle, Callaghan & Company, Southeastern Asset Management, Network Technology Services, Osceola Supply, Owens & Minor, Pioneer Health Services, Rumble’s Office City, Seagate Printing and Thomasville National Bank.
“The support from the community for this event is outstanding each year,” said Middleton. “We appreciate the support from our major sponsors, individual supporters and the 121 sponsors that helped this tournament be a success.”
To date, the Archbold Classic has provided over $1.5 million to the scholarship program. Donations to the Archbold Scholarship Program are received year-round and can be made by contacting the Archbold Foundation at 229-228-2924.
