Archbold Sleep Center and Hospice of Southwest Georgia Host Open House
Thursday, June 30, 2011
Archbold Medical Center is celebrating the relocation of the Thomasville office of Hospice of Southwest Georgia and Archbold’s Sleep Center to 114 Mimosa Drive.
An Open House will take place inside Hospice of Southwest Georgia and Archbold’s Sleep Center on Sunday, July 10, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served, and the community is invited to attend.
Hospice of Southwest Georgia
Hospice of Southwest Georgia, an affiliate of Archbold Memorial Hospital, has offered support services to families as well as patients in the Thomasville, Bainbridge and surrounding areas since 1989.
“As the oldest not-for-profit, community based hospice organization in the Thomasville area, Hospice of Southwest
Georgia offers what some hospice organizations cannot: a comprehensive continuum of care,” said Regenia Jones, administrator of Hospice of Southwest Georgia.
In addition to skilled nursing and counseling for emotional support, rehabilitative services such as physical, occupational and speech therapy are available when needed. Hospice of Southwest Georgia also can provide access to local home health services, in-home medical equipment and supplies, and inpatient care at Archbold Memorial Hospital when recommended by a physician.
Archbold’s Sleep Center
The Archbold Sleep Center, originally housed in Archbold Memorial Hospital, opened in 1992 with two patient beds.
The Sleep Center is now a four-bed sleep lab and will be expanding to six beds at Archbold with the next 3 months.
The Archbold Sleep Center also operates a two-bed sleep lab inside the Bainbridge Hospital.
Sleep disorders include conditions such as chronic insomnia, sleep apnea and restless legs syndrome. Some conditions, like apnea, can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
“As many as 90 million Americans suffer, many unknowingly, from sleep disorders,” said Kim Blackburn, Archbold
Sleep Center coordinator. “Our new location will allow us to accommodate three times as many patients, compared to our original location inside the hospital.”
