Flamingo Challenge

T​o provide support for local patients battling​ breast cancer, Archbold Foundation​​ and​​ First Commerce​ Credit Union have teamed up​ for​ the Flamingo Challenge fundraising init​iative.​

Funds raised through the Flamingo Challenge will go towards the Archbold Cancer Center Resource Fund, which directly benefits under-served patients in the region by providing such items as those listed below:

• A lymphedema sleeve, which relieves pain and stiffness in the extremities caused by fluid buildup that can result from cancer treatments (cost: $50)
• A gift bag of cosmetics and skin care items provided to patients participating in Archbold's beauty and skincare program Brave and Beautiful (cost: $75)
• A wig for a patient who has lost their hair due to chemotherapy (cost: $100)
• Breast prosthesis for patients who have had a mastectomy (cost: $300)
• Four cold-cap therapy treatments (cost: $1,050)

The month-long event, held in October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is a fun, community-wide fundraiser where businesses, organizations and individuals can show their support for cancer patients by claiming a flock of pink flamingos to place in front of their home or business, making a pledge to donate or fundraise for the cause.

The Flamingo Challenge kicks off on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, with a Flamingo Launch Party from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hubs & Hops, where individuals and organizations are invited to pick up their flocks. For those unable to attend the event to pick up their flocks, flamingos will be delivered to the supporting businesses at a later date.

• Flock—$500
• Flamingo—$250
