Archbold’s Live Better Hosting Kids Fun Run

Archbold’s Live Better Hosting Kids Fun Run

Live Better, the Archbold-led community health initiative, is hosting the Live Better Heart and Sole Fun Run-a one-mile fun run for children grade levels K-5.

Held in conjunction with Heart Month, the run is intended to raise awareness of the connection between obesity and heart disease while promoting living a heart-healthy lifestyle through physical fitness and healthy eating.

About one in three children in the United States are considered overweight or obese. Childhood obesity can cause a broad range of health problems in adulthood, and obese children are much more likely to become obese adults. Nearly 70% of American adults are either overweight or obese. Being obese puts you at a higher risk for health problems, including heart disease.

“One of our goals for this run is to teach children that heart health is important even at a young age,” said Todd Bennett, Archbold Clinical Outreach Manager.

“Live Better has become a great influence in our schools and community,” said Laine Reichert, Thomasville City Schools Superintendent and Live Better board member.

“We’re pleased to offer a fun and health-focused event to create awareness of obesity and heart health, and to get children active,” expressed Dusty Kornegay, Thomas County Schools Superintendent and Live Better board member.

“Obesity is the common factor between so many preventable diseases,” said Mark Lowe, Vice President of Planning and Marketing at Archbold. “Heart disease is one of them, and it’s really important we address it as early as possible. We believe that opportunity starts with our children.”

The free run will take place on February 17th, at 9:00am, and will begin and end at the Thomasville Amphitheatre.

All pre-registered race participants will receive a race t-shirt after they cross the finish line. Trophies will be awarded to the top five finishers in each grade level. The overall top male and female finishers will win a new bicycle.
