Archbold Grady Earns Level I Maternal Care Verification from Joint Commission

The Joint Commission’s Maternal Levels of Care (MLC) Verification program, offered in collaboration with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), has named Archbold Grady a Level I maternal care verified facility.

As a Level 1 facility, Archbold Grady has demonstrated its ability to care for low—to moderate-risk pregnancies, but also detect, stabilize, and initiate management of unanticipated maternal-fetal or neonatal problems that occur during the antepartum, intrapartum, or postpartum period until the patient can be transferred to a facility at which specialty maternal care is available.

Archbold Grady underwent a comprehensive on-site review in July to verify the level of care provided. During the on-site verification visit, Archbold Grady’s capabilities related to maternity care were evaluated. Additionally, compliance with Archbold Grady’s policies was reviewed.

“At the Birthing Center at Archbold Grady, patient safety is not just a priority, it is a promise,” said Whitney Sampson, BSN, RNC/MNN, Nurse Manager at The Birthing Center at Archbold Grady. “Every decision and every action is guided by our unwavering commitment to providing the highest quality care for the mothers and babies in our community.”

“The Joint Commission commends Archbold Grady for being named a Level I maternal care verified facility and for its efforts to standardize maternal care and reduce maternal morbidity and mortality,” says Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer, The Joint Commission. “The Maternal Levels of Care Verification program will help Archbold Grady strengthen regionalized care for mothers and babies in its community.”

“Our staff’s dedication to provide innovative and patient-centered care for our community is making a difference,” said Dori Griffin, RN, MSN, Director of Nursing at Archbold Grady. “Their hard work and commitment to our patients and our community is what excellence looks like.”

The MLC Verification program was developed using ACOG’s Levels of Maternal Care Obstetric Care Consensus (OCC) clinical guidance, which includes comprehensive uniform definitions, a standardized description of maternity facility capabilities and personnel, and a framework for integrated systems that address maternal health needs.
