The DAISY Award celebrates the extraordinary compassion nurses provide their patients and families every day. Archbold’s first DAISY Award recipient, Vicki Jenkins, was honored on July 18, 2018, seven years ago today.
Vicki Jenkins, RNC-OB, served as Nurse Manager in the Birthing Center at Archbold Grady. In 2020, Jenkins was voted as the “Best Nurse in Grady County.”
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation was formed in November, 1999, by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications from Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The nursing care Patrick received when hospitalized profoundly touched his family. When Patrick died, the family felt compelled to say “thank you”, so they established the DAISY program as a way to recognize nurses in a very public way.
Each DAISY Award Honoree is recognized at a public ceremony and receives a certificate, a DAISY Award pin, and a sculpture with Healer’s Touch inscribed.
Each patient and their family have the opportunity to nominate a nurse for the DAISY Award following their time at Archbold. DAISY Award recipients are nominated for demonstrating extraordinary care, great clinical and leadership skills, and strong patient care and compassion. Additionally, the BEE Award was established by nurses to recognize the members of our staff who go beyond exceptional expectations. The award recognizes nursing support team members, including CNAs, for Being Extraordinary Every day. To learn more, please visit www.archbold.org/bee.
