Archbold Recognizes Heart Month with Health Talk

Archbold Recognizes Heart Month with Health Talk

According to the World Health Organization, Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. CVDs include coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, rheumatic heart disease and other conditions.

“Many common heart conditions are caused by plaque building up in your arteries, which can narrow or block blood flow. Cardiovascular disease can also lead to problems with the heart muscle, its valves, or cause irregular heartbeats, known as arrhythmias,” said Roberto Camacho, MD, FACC, a cardiologist at Cardiovascular Consultants of South Georgia.

Risk factors for heart disease include an unhealthy diet, a lack of physical activity, excessive weight, tobacco use and harmful use of alcohol among others.

"Understanding your risk factors and practicing heart-healthy habits like a good diet and exercise is important to reduce your cardiovascular disease risk," added Camacho.

In honor of Heart Month, Archbold is hosting a free community health talk. The health talk, titled Cardiovascular Disease: Understanding Risks, Symptoms and Treatment Options, will be presented by Dr. Camacho on Tuesday, February 24 at 6pm in Williams Auditorium at Archbold Memorial. Dinner will be served to attendees.
