Archbold generated more than $790 million for the local and state economy in 2021, according to a recently released Georgia Hospital Association report. The report found that Archbold’s Brooks County Hospital (BCH) contributed more than $25 million to the regional economy in the same period. The yearly report uses U.S. Department of Commerce analysis to measure the ripple effect of direct hospital expenditures in other sectors of the economy.
“While our primary mission will always be to provide access to high-quality healthcare and cutting-edge technologies, we are proud of Archbold’s significant positive impact on the economy of South Georgia,” said Darcy Craven, Archbold President and CEO.
According to the report, Archbold provided more than $40 million in uncompensated care for patients in the region, of which more than $3.2 million was provided by BCH. The four-hospital system currently employs more than 2,300 people full-time. BCH employs 96 people full-time in Quitman. According to the report, a U.S. Department of Commerce multiplier reveals that a total of 7,163 jobs are supported in the region due to the economic activity of Archbold Medical Center. The economic activity of BCH supports an additional 241 jobs in the Quitman area.
Archbold is a significant component of the region’s economic strength. According to the GHA report, for every Archbold employee, there is more than one supporting job created throughout the region and state. In addition, the funds the organization spends on goods and services flow from the hospital to businesses, and those funds ripple through the local economy.
“We strive to ensure every resident of Brooks County and the surrounding area has access to high-quality, compassionate health care,” said June Furney, administrator of BCH. “We believe BCH plays a large role in making Brooks County a great place to live, work and raise a family.”
BCH is a 25-bed acute care hospital that has been recognized for its stellar performance and quality measures. BCH offers residents around-the-clock emergency care, swing bed services and outpatient procedures conveniently located in Quitman.
