First Commerce Credit Union recently presented a donation of more than $5,300 to the Archbold Foundation in support of the Archbold Cancer Center Resource Fund. The resource fund assists underserved patients in the region, including those battling breast cancer.
Funds raised allow Archbold to provide wigs for patients who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy, breast prostheses for patients who have had a mastectomy, cold-cap therapy treatments, and lymphedema sleeves, which relieve pain and stiffness in the extremities caused by fluid buildup that can result from cancer treatments.
The donation is the culmination of First Commerce’s Flamingo Challenge, an annual fundraiser held in October that encourages community members and businesses to “join the flock, join the fight against breast cancer, and make a difference.”
Each group that accepted the challenge made a donation to support breast cancer patients in our region and, in return, received a flock of plastic pink flamingos to display proudly. The Flamingo Challenge, which supports four cancer centers in South Georgia and North Florida, has raised more than $640,000 since it began in 2020. Last year’s fundraiser was the third in Thomasville.
Presenting the donation on behalf of First Commerce Credit Union were Tiffany McCall, Barbara Williams-Anderson, and Jessica Edwards. Vann Middleton, Archbold Foundation President, and Wendy Jacobs, Breast Cancer Navigator at Archbold Cancer Center, gratefully accepted the donation.
Mark your calendars for the next Flamingo Challenge, coming in October 2026, and read more about the program at www.archbold.org/flamingochallenge.
