Archbold recently dedicated the Archbold Internal Medicine Clinic and unveiled a plaque honoring retired Archbold physician Dr. Marshall Dunaway for his years of service, exceptional leadership and lasting contributions to medical education and the Thomasville community.
Dunaway joined the Archbold medical staff in 1971 and went on to serve as Chief of Staff twice, from 1974-1975 and again from 1987-1988. Throughout his distinguished career, he earned the respect of his colleagues and community through his commitment to excellence in patient care, thoughtful leadership and dedication to the advancement of medicine.
Among his most enduring contributions was his commitment to medical education and his passion for helping develop the next generation of physicians. His vision and unwavering dedication were instrumental in establishing the Medical College of Georgia-Archbold Internal Medicine Residency Program in 2022, creating new opportunities for physicians to train, learn and serve in the Thomasville community.
“I’m so proud we can honor Dr. Dunaway and recognize the tremendous impact he has had on Archbold and our community,” said Darcy Craven, president and CEO of Archbold. "For decades, he has been a champion for excellence in medicine and, just as importantly, for educating and mentoring the physicians who will carry that work forward."
“Dr. Dunaway has always been a mentor to me and others here at Archbold,” said Raul Santos, MD, program director of the Medical College of Georgia-Archbold Internal Medicine Residency Program. “Our future here at Archbold is bright because of him and his influence.”
The plaque is displayed in the waiting area of the Archbold Internal Medicine Residency Clinic in Thomasville. The clinic serves as a teaching facility where resident physicians gain valuable experience in an outpatient clinical setting while providing high-quality care to members of the community.
The clinic provides a range of primary care services, including preventive care, chronic disease management and treatment for acute illnesses. Through the residency program, patients benefit from care provided by resident physicians under the guidance and supervision of experienced faculty physicians while residents develop the skills and experience needed for their careers in internal medicine.
