Simmons Recognized for Clinical Trial Leadership

Archbold hematologist and oncologist Josh Simmons, MD, was recently recognized for his leadership in Georgia’s Blood Cancer Trials Network (BCTN) at the Didactics in Hematology and Oncology Conference in Sea Island, Georgia.
Dr. Johnathon Cohen of Emory University’s Winship Cancer Institute and program director of the Georgia Blood Cancer Trials Network presented Dr. Simmons with an award recognizing his contributions as a leader within the statewide network.
The recognition highlights Dr. Simmons’ commitment to expanding access to clinical research and innovative treatment options for patients with blood cancers throughout South Georgia and beyond.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by Dr. Cohen and the team at Georgia Blood Cancer Trials Network,” said Dr. Simmons. “Our team at the Archbold Cancer Center is extremely dedicated to expanding treatment options through clinical trials for our patients in Southwest Georgia.”
The Georgia Blood Cancer Trials Network brings together oncology practices, cancer centers and hospitals across the state with a shared goal: making clinical trials more accessible to patients with blood cancers. Through collaboration among participating providers, the network helps connect patients with research opportunities and emerging therapies closer to home.
The Archbold Cancer Center and its team of medical oncologists are committed to bringing innovative cancer research and treatment options closer to home for patients in our community.
Through participation in research groups and collaboration with leading medical centers, the Archbold Cancer Center offers eligible patients access to clinical trials investigating new medications, treatments, and approaches to cancer care. These opportunities allow patients to participate in studies that previously required traveling to larger cities.
“Access to clinical trials can play an important role in a patient’s individualized treatment plan,” said Robin Mullins, RN, BSN, Executive Director of Oncology Services at the Archbold Cancer Center. “Clinical research also helps advance cancer care by allowing our physicians the opportunity to evaluate new approaches and bring innovative treatment options to our patients.”
