Georgia residents now have the opportunity to support Archbold Grady through the Georgia HEART Hospital Program, a state tax credit program.

Georgia HEART was created by state legislators in response to the financial strain rural hospitals face that jeopardizes rural Georgians’ access to adequate healthcare. Nine rural hospitals in Georgia have closed since 2010, according to Georgia Trend magazine.

The Georgia HEART Hospital Program offers dollar-for-dollar Georgia income tax credits to individual and corporate taxpayers who contribute to qualified rural hospital organizations in Georgia. This year, all four Archbold hospitals qualify and can accept Georgia HEART donations.

“Georgia HEART is essentially an opportunity to decide where your state income tax dollars go, redirecting them to stay in Cairo instead of going to Atlanta,” shared Archbold Foundation President E. Vann Middleton. “When a supporter of Archbold Grady donates $5,000 through the Georgia HEART program to support our mission, they will receive a Georgia income tax credit of $5,000.”

Funds raised through the Georgia HEART program are not shared with other Archbold facilities and must be used in Cairo to improve facilities and support the mission of Archbold Grady.

“We plan to use funds raised through the Georgia HEART program to support major capital projects that will benefit Grady County and this area for years to come,” explained Archbold Grady Administrator Crystal Wells. “While we are still in preliminary planning stages, your support will help us construct a new emergency department, enlarge and modernize our laboratory services, and create an updated entry and lobby area.”

Statewide contributions through the program are capped at $100 million, and tax credits are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis Limits apply to individual donation amounts at certain times of the year. To participate in the Georgia HEART program, donors must fill out the 2026 Tax Credit Form at www.georgiaheart.org. Georgia HEART will submit the request to the Department of Revenue and notify donors when their application is approved. Following approval, donors can make their contribution to Archbold Grady.
