Archbold Expands Critical Care with Continuous Kidney Support Therapy

Archbold is proud to offer a new form of inpatient dialysis treatment for critically ill patients. Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) is a specialized form of kidney support used for critically ill patients who may not be able to tolerate traditional dialysis.

CRRT provides slow, continuous removal of fluid and waste, enabling more precise management of patients with complex, rapidly changing clinical needs. CRRT does the work of the kidneys until a patient can tolerate traditional dialysis or no longer needs dialysis.

“The launch of CRRT at Archbold Memorial represents a major advancement in the care of critically ill patients in Southwest Georgia,” shared Archbold Nephrologist Daryl Crenshaw, MD, FASH, FACP, FACN. “As we prepare to expand our cardiothoracic surgery program and continue training the next generation of physicians through the Medical College of Georgia-Archbold Internal Medicine Residency Program, CRRT ensures that our community has access to state-of-the-art, life-sustaining kidney support therapy close to home, without the need for transfer to larger academic centers.”

Intensive Care Unit nurses at Archbold Memorial completed extensive education and hands-on training alongside dialysis nurses in preparation to offer CRRT.

“Our critical care nurses are eager to grow alongside the services we provide at Archbold,” shared Archbold Memorial Director of Critical Care Mallory Brents, MSN, RN. “They have put an incredible amount of work into preparing for CRRT, and I am confident they will provide exceptional, high-quality care to these patients. “

Archbold is committed to bringing advanced critical care services to the patients and families in our community when they need them most. The addition of CRRT is another step forward in the level of critical care offered at Archbold. For patients and families, it means access to advanced, life-sustaining treatment closer to home, potentially reducing the need for transfer to larger facilities solely for this level of kidney support.
