Archbold has received state approval to establish an adult open-heart surgery program at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital, marking a significant expansion of cardiovascular services in the region.
The Georgia Department of Community Health has issued a Certificate of Need (CON) authorizing the hospital to move forward with the development of the program. The approval allows Archbold to develop a comprehensive, locally coordinated cardiovascular service, including the construction of dedicated cardiovascular operating rooms and the expansion of intensive care capacity. Once implemented, the program will help to improve access to advanced cardiac care for patients throughout the service area.
“The addition of open-heart surgery services will help reduce the need for patients to travel outside the region for complex cardiac procedures, while improving continuity and timeliness of care,” said Chris Newman, Archbold Chief Operating Officer. “It also positions Archbold to offer a more comprehensive cardiology program, including advanced services such as structural heart and electrophysiology.”
The project builds on Archbold’s existing cardiac services and reflects the organization’s broader commitment to improving health outcomes and expanding access to care close to home.
“The approval of this program is a significant step forward for both Archbold and the communities we serve,” said Darcy Craven, Archbold President and CEO. “Providing open-heart surgery locally will allow patients and their families to receive high-quality, specialized care close to home, which can make a meaningful difference in both outcomes and overall experience.”
Additional details about the program’s timeline and development will be released as planning progresses.
