Staying active can make a big difference for people living with Parkinson’s disease, and Archbold Therapy and Sports Medicine is making it easier with a new exercise and wellness class designed for those affected by the condition.
Led by occupational therapists Molly Cone, OT, and Jenna Deloach, OT, the class will focus on exercises designed to improve rigidity, balance, posture, walking, and coordination. These areas are often affected by Parkinson’s, and regular exercise can play an important role in helping people maintain their independence and quality of life.
In addition to physical activity, the class will provide an opportunity for participants to connect with others facing similar challenges.
“We want to create a supportive environment where people can work on their strength and mobility while connecting with others who understand what they’re going through,” said Deloach.
The class is designed for individuals at various stages of Parkinson’s and will include activities aimed at improving everyday function and overall wellness. Participants can expect guided exercises, encouragement, and practical strategies they can use both in and outside of class.
“Exercise is one of the best tools we have to help manage the symptoms of Parkinson’s,” said Cone. “We’re excited to offer a program that helps people stay moving, engaged, and continue to do things that are important to them.”
Classes will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30pm to 2:30pm, at the Everett-Milton YMCA in downtown Thomasville.
