Primary Care Track

For residents who envision a future in primary care and outpatient general medicine, our Internal Medicine Residency Program offers a dedicated Primary Care Track. This track is designed to provide residents with enriched training in ambulatory medicine through a blend of clinical experiences, longitudinal patient care, and faculty mentorship.

What Does the Medical College of Georgia - Archbold Residency Primary Care Track Look Like?

Residents in our Primary Care Track receive enhanced exposure to continuity clinic, chronic disease management, preventive care, and population health. In addition, they participate in innovative educational activities tailored to the unique challenges and rewards of primary care practice. The track emphasizes relationship-based care, community engagement, and preparing residents to thrive in a variety of outpatient settings.

Our three-year curriculum includes:

Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1) Schedule

  • 16 weeks internal medicine service
  • 16 weeks outpatient internal medicine
  • 12 weeks elective of your choice
  • 4 week cardiology
  • 4 weeks ICU

Post Graduate Year 2 (PGY-2) Schedule

  • 12 weeks internal medicine service
  • 16 weeks outpatient internal medicine
  • 12 weeks elective of your choice
  • 4 weeks cardiology
  • 4 weeks ICU
  • 4 weeks internal medicine service nights

Post Graduate Year 3 (PGY-3) Schedule

  • 8 weeks internal medicine service
  • 16 weeks outpatient internal medicine
  • 20 weeks elective of your choice
  • 4 weeks ICU
  • 4 weeks internal medicine service nights

Dr. NeSmith is a board-certified internist who serves as Core Faculty and Lead of the Primary Care Track. He is passionate about outpatient general medicine, and is dedicated to mentoring residents interested in primary care.
