The Archbold Women’s Center offers private ultrasound suites in a calming environment for women needing a pelvic ultrasound. For pregnant patients, the ultrasound suite has plenty of room to accommodate select family members you’d like present during your procedure.
Ultrasound imaging of the pelvis uses sound waves to produce pictures of the structures and organs in the lower abdomen and pelvis. The two types of pelvic ultrasound for women are abdominal and vaginal. These exams are frequently used to evaluate the reproductive and urinary systems. If you’re pregnant, your physician will likely order several obstetric ultrasounds during your pregnancy. Obstetric ultrasound uses sound waves to produce pictures of a baby (embryo or fetus) within a pregnant woman, as well as the mother's uterus and ovaries.
Obstetric ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation, so it has no known harmful effects and is the preferred method for monitoring pregnant women and their unborn babies. A Doppler ultrasound study – a technique that evaluates blood flow in the umbilical cord, fetus, or placenta – may also be performed during this type of exam.
